You are Unique

Unique. To be completely honest, the word “unique” is a unique word. But, what does it mean? Well, being unique means that you are different from everybody else. It means that you can make a difference in your life.

An old joke says, “You are unique. Just like everyone else.” That’s obviously a joke because the part in it that says, “just like everyone else” makes it so you’re not unique.

But you are special. Everyone else has their ways of doing things – the same old, same old.

An old quote from Albert Einstein says, “If you do what you always did, you will get what you always got.

Let’s take a look at that picture at the top. There are eight fish in that bowl, just swimming around, doing what they have always done. But one fish is ready to take that leap of faith to go into their very own bowl of surprises and excitement. And guess what: You are that fish! Or, you have the potential to be that fish.

But you have to take that leap of faith. The fish in the picture could have jumped too close, and could have fallen in between the bowls. It also could have jumped too far, and it could have completely missed the bowl.

Do you see how that has to do with things in real life? If you jump too close, that means you’re not determined enough or you’re afraid. But if you jump too far – and yes, there is such a thing as jumping too far – and you’re too excited and you’re not expecting obstacles and things to arise in your path, you may be very surprised. So be aware of obstacles, but be determined so you can say, “I know obstacles will come my way sometimes, but I will always get past them.

To quote Dr. Seuss from his book Oh, The Places You’ll Go, “Oh, the places you’ll go! There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored; there are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with that ball, will make you the winning-est winner of all! Fame! You’ll be famous as famous can be, with the whole wide world watching you win on TV! Except when they don’t, because sometimes they won’t. I’m afraid that sometimes, you’ll play lonely games, too; games you can’t win, because you’ll play against you. But on you will go, though the weather be foul. On you will go, though your enemies prowl. On you will go, though the Hakken-Kraks howl. Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore, and your sneakers may leak.

I love that excerpt of Dr. Seuss’ Oh, The Places You’ll Go because it shows that you will win and you will lose; you just have to be determined enough to keep on going.

So always remember that you are unique – and no matter what other people say, you can achieve your goal. You got this!
